14 Mar SMP Week #6 Bets
Week #6 of the Saturday Morning Post features three recommended bets. Two fall into the Longshot category, and one fits the Low-Priced Overlay category, which has been more successful.
A brief word about the longshots:
- Thundergram returned to Oaklawn looking to replicate his earlier 2-turn success there. He followed that flash-and-fade comebacker with a sharp 5-furlong work. Now he meets claimers for the first time and gets a positive rider switch. Trainer Mark Casse has 5 wins at OP, all with Bridgmohan aboard.
- At Gulfstream in the 5-furlong Silks Run Stakes on the turf, Golden Rifle offers value (morning line 12-1). He drops and shortens after an attempted theft of a Grade 1 turf route. He fits James Quinn’s “power sprinter” angle: a competitive but unsuccessful stakes frontrunner around two turns who can press and outlast fast sprinters.
